What tools and materials will I need?
There are many different Parchment Craft brands out there:
Pergamano.
Parchcraft Australia. (PCA).
Siesta Frames.
These are the main three that I know of.
The tools and materials they manufacture all do similar jobs, it really depends on you and which brand you prefer, at the end of the day a 'Single Needle Tool' will perforate an hole.
Parchment Craft Paper (Vellum).
This is fundamental for this craft, it does come in different weights just like paper and card.
I personally work with a 140gsm weight, which is classed as a paper weight but embosses beautifully and easy to cut perforations to create lace work.
Embossing Mat
An essential piece of equipment, ideally this should be quite a dense rubber style mat and not to soft, to ensure when embossing, the parchment remains quite flat.
Perforating Mat
An essential piece of equipment, you will use this under your parchment when perforating either freehand or through a grid.
Parchment Craft Scissors.
An essential piece of equipment without these you will not be able to cut the lace work patterns that is the hallmark of parchment craft.
Embossing Ball Tools
These are pen like tools with a ball tip and come in a variety of sizes as a starter set choose a small, medium and large.
With these three tools you can emboss your designs in a variety of styles to create different effects.
Perforating Tools.
The amount of perforating tools that are available can be overwhelming, but as a good starting point I would suggest:
Single Needle Tool(Bold) Pergamano or PCA
Two Needle Tool(Pergamano)
With these two tools you will be able to achieve most things required for Parchment Craft designing.
Grids
Again this can be another mine field as there are so many.
I find as a beginner it is best to start with a Straight Grid(Bold).
It is easier on the eyes as it as larger holes and can be used for Parchment Craft designing.
I suggest:
Pergamano Grid 28, this is an A4 sized grid.
