Step 1: Adding colour to a parchment craft design is easy with coloured pencils, you can use any pencils you already have, and I have used the Sakura ones on this occasion.
Step 2: For this design we are going to add colour on the back of the parchment, there are a few different techniques with pencils you can use on parchment but for this lesson we will start with this simple and very effective technique.
TIP: Make sure you are working on a hard surface. Do not work on your embossing mat otherwise any pressure with the pencil will start to emboss the parchment.
TIP: You can sharpen your pencils if you wish but for this technique it doesn’t really matter.

Step 3: The pencil colour is applied on the back of the leaves simple ‘Scribble’ the pencil to fill the leaf, the colour looks brighter on the back and more subtle on the front and you can still see all your graduated embossing.
NOTE: You can add any colour of your choice, you may want to forward think and match it to your base card colour.
TIP: You can colour a white base card or die cuts using ‘Distress ink pads’ to match your coloured pencils, this is what I have done on my finished sample.

Step 4: Add a yellow to the flower centre (on the back), the effect from the front looks very pretty with the embossed sun shapes. You could stop here and leave the flower petals white for a very delicate finish.
TIP: The nice thing about pencils is if you don’t like what you have done you can erase away the pencil.

Step 5: Add colour into the flower petals, I have used a dark purple shade and used a flicking movement starting from my shadow areas at the base of the petals and flicked towards the petal tips, leaving the tips of the petals un coloured.
